ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A construction project to reconstruct the Bypass 20 bridges on Rockford's south side over the Rock River has been announced.
The project is worth $20.8 million. According to a press release, Freeport company Civil Constructors, Inc. was the lowest of four bidders to earn the contract.
Traffic will continue on Bypass 20 during the project.
"I'm pleased to see the state focusing on the needs of the Rockford community," said State Senator Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford), in a press release. "The Governor recently helped officially open the Morgan St. Bridge, and now he's announced reconstruction of another important bridge over the Rock River. This is a needed investment in our community and in our economy."
