STATELINE (WIFR) -- It's expected to be the busiest shipping day in history for Fed-Ex stores across the nation and here in the Stateline. Today, millions of packages will be mailed.
“We could make someone’s Christmas or not make it, depending on how it arrives to them.” said one Fed-Ex worker.
Boxes, after boxes deck the halls of Rockford’s Fed-Ex shipping center as employees prepare for the busiest delivery day of the year.
It's expected to be an historic event for the company with 19 million packages delivered. Just to give you an idea, that's more than double the amount handled on a typical day.
Jocelyn Becham says she expects to send eight packages this holiday season, to family members across the nation.
“My brothers and sisters live in five different states and my oldest daughter is in Texas so there is a lot of shipping to do,” said Bechem.
The national retail federation says an increase in cyber shopping is moving gifts from online to the assembly line. More than 300,000 workers will help transfer the presents from trucks, to under our trees.
The post office says it’s best to have our items shipped by no later than next Monday.
