ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Burglaries seem to be a problem in one of Rockford’s southeast side neighborhoods. Crimes in the Union Park neighborhood, which is between 20th and 23rd avenue and 11th street and 7th street, have jumped significantly in the past few months.
In February there were 15 crimes reported in the neighborhood. In April that number nearly doubled to 29. The main issue is burglaries to homes and cars. The neighborhood watch president says in one night five homes were burglarized, and even she fell victim when someone stole parts off her car.
"They stole the catalytic converter off of it during the middle of the night and I have three dogs and they didn't stop them. Several other neighbors were also hit and had their catalytic converters also stolen," Lori Harvel, Union Park Unites President, said.
The good news, vandalism fell from March to April from seven cases down to four.
