STATELINE (WIFR) -- The Stateline scores big with another major sporting tournament slated to bring in more than half a million dollars for our area.
At Sportscore II in Loves Park, the region is hosting its first ever lacrosse tournament and the amount of people that are expected to attend some say should have a positive impact on the local economy.
"It's going to be 3,000 players, fans, managers, family that are here in the area...eating at our restaurants, shopping at our stores., staying at our hotels," Jenny Caiozzo of the Rockford Area Convention &Visitors Bureau said.
Those visitors are here for the Rock River Cup which is the Stateline's first ever lacrosse tournament and most of them are from outside the Stateline, some even out of Illinois entirely. The RACVB says that could mean half a million dollars being spent at local businesses. Some visitors say they're happy to spend their money in our area.
"I think it's a great thing not only for us to be able to help bring some money in and bring some people in to see the area...people get to enjoy the city and what it has to offer," lacrosse coach Tom Lauria of Minnesota said.
RACVB says they're going to work extra hard this summer getting people to the Stateline now that AirFest and On the Waterfront are canceled.
