ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It's summer vacation for kids across the Stateline but that's not the case for a group of boys for Boylan High School.
This week 24 sophomores are making repairs to the Diocese of Rockford's Bishop Lane Retreat. The guys are working with retired contractors, engineers and tradesmen to do the construction on the 50 year old center. Some of the work includes fixing the roof of the outdoor chapel, replacing carpet and painting. Matthew Cyrs says the team was able to raise more than $40,000 to make all of the repairs.
The is like a non-profit organization the Bishop Lane Retreat they don't make any income all the money they receive is from donations so it feels good to know what we are accomplishing right now today and over the next few days something that might of took them years to do because they don't have the manpower or the funds to help them out and fix this place up," Cyrs said.
The guys hope to have all of the work done by Sunday.
