Boutique Crawl Urges People to Buy Local

STATELINE (WIFR) -- "Buying local" is always the motto small businesses love to promote and that's why a few local stores banded together to encourage customers to shop around the neighborhood.

Roxy Carmichael, Mary's by Design, Interiors, The Olive Oil Experience, Culture Shock and Merle Norman all opened their doors for the New Year Boutique Crawl 2014.

Hundreds of customers were coaxed into the stores because if they shopped at all six places, they could win one of 12 prizes.

The store owners believe most people are unaware of their stores and this is the perfect chance to check them out.

"It's a great excuse to get out with your mom, sister, girlfriend and just have a fun day and take the time to check out the businesses that they maybe have not had the time to do in the past," said owner of Mary's by Design, Mary Sweeney.

Organizers of the boutique crawl say they like to put on the event every year, but are always open to adding different stores into the mix.
