BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Local history buffs have even more artifacts to check out as a local museum re-opens for visitors.
The Boone County Historical Museum opened Friday after more than a year of renovations. The 6,000 square foot expansion will allow the museum to display items that had been in storage and haven't been seen by the public. The historical society also plans to use the space to host more tours and open houses. Organizers say the addition means the museum is now under one roof and they want it to be interactive.
“We want them to be able to bring things in, be able to see the past and present history of Boone County. People always think of the 1800s or 1900s but this is history, today as were standing here,” says Teri Keegan, president of the Boone County Museum District.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday and admission is always free.
