ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Despite the recent financial troubles at the Booker Washington Center, the organization's annual summer festival continues to entertain local families.
Performers took the stage all weekend for Bookerfest 2013. The Rockford Robotics team put on a demonstration, and members of the CAPA program in District 205 perfumed numbers from 101 Dalmatians, Jr. Plenty of food and cool drinks were on hand. Kids had plenty to do, including arts and crafts, bounce houses and street hockey. Organizers hope the annual event will bring some extra dollars for the center, and say despite recent financial woes, they are committed to making this party happens.
It’s been part of our tradition to have it. It also helps us complete our mission which is to bring recreation and the arts and everything to the community. We’ve done it year after year and we want to continue to do it," says Booker Washington Center board member Aprel Prunty.
Sunday’s activities included praise teams and gospel music.
