Booker Washington Center Bouncing Back Financially

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Booker Washington Community Center has also had its fair share of funding problems, but despite that leaders say the center is still going strong.

Hundreds of people came out for Bookerfest this weekend. The three day event includes food, music, dancing, and games for the kids.

Board member Aprel Prunty says financially the group still isn't where they'd like it to be, but says the organization is getting help. She says it's encouraging to see so many people still supporting the Booker Washington Center.

"They're aware and they understand the importance of the center and what can be done here so it’s good. This is good, it’s good to see the folks out here supporting, it’s good to see so many friends here," Prunty said.

Last year the Booker Washington Center was close to closing down. It had a $100,000 deficit and had to lay off half a dozen employees.
