WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) – Another long-time member of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says he can make us safer if he takes over the top job.
Bob Springer says he’s throwing his badge in the ring for Winnebago County Sheriff. Spring has a combined 34 years of law enforcement experience between jobs at the Sheriff’s Department and Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System.
Springer says his experience both as a deputy and as coordinator of ILEAS makes him the perfect candidate for the job.
“I've commanded every post of the sheriff's department so I’m aware of the employees, supervisors, commanders strengths and weaknesses so i think right off the bat that would give me a certain advantage of being able to walk in the door that first day, that first hour and truly be able to be the sheriff,” Springer said.
Three others have already announced they’re running for Sheriff. Springer faces off against fellow democrats Randy Olson and Bob Redmon. Gary Caruana is running for Sheriff on the Republican Ballot. Democratic Incumbent Dick Meyers announced earlier this year he won’t seek re-election.
