MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) – A pavilion at Schoonmaker Park is being dedicated in the name of longtime Machesney Park resident, Bill Burkman.
Burkman was part of the first graduating class of Harlem High School in 1924. He was also part of the first football team there, as well as the founder of the Harlem’s alumni group. Harlem Township and Machesney Park came together for this project.
“I just think it’s good for the community to see that two units of government can work together and provide for their citizens,” said Harlem Township Supervisor Terri Knight.
Burkman lived to be 107 years old. He died last year.
