BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Today the Belvidere Police Dept. arrested a man in connection to a gang shooting.
Known gang member 19-year-old Erek Rubalcava of Belvidere is being charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm which is a class 1 felony.
Rubalcava remains in the Boone County Jail on a 100 thousand dollar bond.
On May 17, 2012, Belvidere police obtained a warrant for Rubalcava. On June 1, 2012, Belvidere Police Detectives arrested Rubalcava at the Boone County Court House after Rubalcava appeared in court on a different charge.
On Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at approx 7:20 pm, Belvidere Police responded to a call for multiple gun shots being fired in the 1000 block of West 6th street in Belvidere. According to witnesses, a subject on foot shot multiple times at a moving vehicle. both the subject and vehicle fled the scene. A short time later, Belvidere Police located the vehicle; it was discovered that the vehicle had been struck several times, but there were no injuries to the occupants.
A class 1 felony is punishable by four to fifteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
