UPDATE: Belvidere Police Announce Cinco de Mayo Patrol Results

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble has announced enforcement results for the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program- Cinco de Mayo campaign.

The Belvidere Police department received funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation to hire off-duty officers from May 1-5. Officers conducted 48 traffic stops that resulted in 45 tickets or arrests:

11- Seat Belt
1- Child Seat
1- DUI
3- Speeding
11- Uninsured
2- Equipment
6- Suspended/Revoked/Unlicensed
1- Other D.L.
4- Moving
3- Registration
1- Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor
1- Illegal Transportation of Alcohol

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble announced the department will be conducting special roving patrols during the Cinco de Mayo holiday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety, awarded the Belvidere P.D. funds through a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program Grant (STEP Grant) to conduct additional specialized patrols for occupant restraint violations and DUI.

Off-duty officers will be hired back from May 1-5. Officers will be deployed at or near high crash intersections and high traffic locations.

Chief Noble encourages motorists to “buckle up” and to designate a sober driver if you’ve been consuming alcohol. Motorists caught unbelted or under the influence will be cited or arrested.
