BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Boone County is home to more than thirty five hundred veterans and all of them have a new spot in Belvidere to meet up, swap stories, and learn about their military benefits.
A ribbon cutting on Friday marked the grand opening of the veterans’ drop in center on State Street. It has computers for vets to surf the web, look for jobs, as well as a pool table and other games. Plus, reps from the VA say they'll stop in to offer services to the men and women at the center.
"When you're down and out as a veteran, and you don’t have a place to go, you're walking the streets you’re homeless or you're living in shelters, it’s great to have a place that's comfortable, that’s warm, that invites you in, it's going to be a wonderful place, " says Dave Davis, superintendent of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Boone County.
The center will be open weekdays from 9am to 7pm.
