Belvidere Police to Conduct Seat Belt Enforcement During Memorial Day Holiday

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Today Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble announced the department will take part in the statewide “Click it or Ticket” crackdown by conducting seat belt enforcement zones and roving patrols, during the Memorial Day Holiday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety, awarded the Belvidere P.D. funds through a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program Grant (STEP Grant). Off-duty officers will be hired back from May 10-27. Officers will be deployed at or near schools, high crash intersections and high traffic locations.

Chief Noble encourages motorists to “buckle up” and to designate a sober driver if you’ve been consuming alcohol. Motorists caught unbelted or under the influence will be cited or arrested.
