BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble has announced the department will be conducting special roving patrols during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety, awarded the Belvidere P.D. funds through a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program Grant (STEP Grant) to conduct additional specialized patrols for occupant restraint violations and DUI.
Off-duty officers will be hired back from March 14- 17. Officers will be deployed at or near high crash intersections and high traffic locations.
Chief Noble encourages motorists to “buckle up” and to designate a sober driver if you’ve been consuming alcohol. Motorists caught unbelted or under the influence will be cited or arrested.
