BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble announces the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety, has awarded the Belvidere Police Department a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program Grant (STEP Grant) in the amount of $17,445.
Off-duty officers will work seat belt enforcement zones and saturation patrols during several specified enforcement periods throughout the grant year, which ends on September 30, 2013.
The first phase of enforcement begins on November 12th and ends on November 25th. Officers will be conducting several high profile seat belt enforcement zones at high traffic locations and/or major intersections throughout the city.
Chief Noble encourages motorists to “buckle up” and to designate a sober driver.
