BELVIDERE – Belvidere North High School’s yearbook, Equus 2012, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 11, celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage. Jostens Look Book is a collection and spreads from outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, storytelling copy and action-packed photography. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.
Equus 2012 was created by Kelsi Shawd, editor-in-chief, and assistant editor-in-chief Lauren Geishert and staff members – Kim Seger, Rachel Tripp, Ainsley Billesbach, Cole Considine, Fernanda Chavez, Tory Darling, Katie Dovenmuehle, Ryan Gamble, Emma Gonet, Melina Garcia, Ashley Graff, Keeva Hursh, Brooke Jenkins, Garrett Lee, Anne Linkenheld, Mallory Makeever, Monica Mendoza, Mozella Moton, Nicole Nevicosi, Jeremy Podzemik, Alyssa Rehn, Jacie Spate, Jamie Spate, Taylor Thompson, Lauren Trotter, Kaitlynn Ryan, Kelly Reilley and Ashley Wennmacher, under the direction of Mike Doyle, yearbook adviser.
“For the second straight year, the Equus has received national recognition, which is a tremendous achievement for our journalism program at Belvidere North,” Mr. Doyle said. “Last year, North won the Illinois Women’s Press Association yearbook competition for the Equus 2011 theater pages. Those pages were submitted to the National Women’s Press Association contest, where they placed second in the U.S.
“Also, this is the third time that an Equus cover has been recognized in the Look Book. The previous covers honored were in 2008 and 2009.”
Belvidere North’s Equus 2012 was one of only 425 yearbooks selected from approximately 3,000 submitted. In addition, it is one of only 10 Illinois schools recognized. The 2013 panel of judges, comprised of nationally recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers, selected the best examples of yearbook spreads and covers to make up the 352-page 2013 Look Book.
“Yearbooks are unique, limited edition books created by students to capture the stories and events for all of the school’s students and Jostens is proud to celebrate the yearbook tradition and the 425 yearbooks selected for the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book,” said John Dalke, editor. “Today’s yearbooks are very sophisticated in terms of visual presentation and the relevant and inclusive content that is featured.”
Mr. Doyle and his yearbook staff received a copy of Jostens’ 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book and plaque from Jostens to recognize their outstanding achievement.
Orders are still being taken for Equus 2013, the sixth edition of the yearbook, at the original price of $65. The price of the yearbook will increase to $70 after May 51. For information, contact Mr. Doyle at 815.547.3550 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
