Belvidere Kids Send Letters to Santa

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- With Christmas less then three weeks away, the holiday season is in full swing, and so are the letters to Santa. Earlier today, children brought their letters to the Belvidere post office to send to Santa. Each letter was postmarked with a special stamp unveiled this afternoon.

The stamp was designed by Belvidere Fire Chief and Artist David Worrell. Each letter sent out today will receive a response in time for Christmas. Today's event was huge success in not only getting letters out to Santa, but also teaching kids about the post office.

"We thought it might be an opportunity to reach out to them, teach them how to address an envelope, how to write a letter, how to put a stamp on them, return address, and see how the process works for the postal service,” said Sean Hargon with the USPS.
