UPDATE: Bail Set for Beloit Man ASccused of Killing Woman with Van

BELOIT, Wis. (AP) -- Bail is set at $100,000 for a 40-year-old man accused of striking and killing a Beloit woman with her van as he fled police.
Christopher Rutherford of Beloit is charged in Rock County with first-degree reckless homicide.
Rutherford is accused in the death of 47-year-old Sheila Rosenbaum. Officers went to a Beloit home on May 11 on an unwanted person complaint, where they found Rosenbaum and Rutherford.
The Beloit Daily News reports that officers tried to arrest Rutherford but he allegedly got away, jumped in Rosenbaum's van and hit her. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police fired at the van, and Rutherford crashed and was caught. He was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound and was arrested once he was released from the hospital Tuesday.

BELOIT (WIFR) -- We now know the names of the two Beloit police officers involved in a shooting earlier this month.

Officer David Elrod is a ten year veteran and Officer Amy Copeland has been on patrol for about two years.

Both are on administrative leave while the Wisconsin Department of Justice investigates the shooting.

Christopher Rutherford, 40, was shot by the officers several times when he tried to get away. Rutherford has been charged with homicide for allegedly running over and killing Sheila Rosenbaum, 47, during The Incident.

UPDATE: BELOIT (WIFR) – The Beloit man who police say ran over a woman while driving away from police could face murder charges.

The coroner’s office says 47-year-old Sheila Rosenbaum suffered massive blunt force trauma to the chest and stomach and are ruling her death a homicide. She died Sunday night when she was run over in the driveway of a home in the 900 block of 10th Street.

Police say the driver, Chris Rutherford was trying to run from police. Officers shot at him several times before he was arrested.

BELOIT (WIFR) -- A Beloit woman is dead after police say she was hit by a man running from police. Police wounded the man as he tried driving away.

47 year old Sheila Rosenbaum called police to her home in the 900 block of 10th Street just before 8 p.m. Sunday night for an unwanted person complaint. When officers arrived, they attempted to take 40 year old Christopher Rutherford from Beloit into custody.

Rutherford was able to break free from officers. Rutherford then got into a car and tried to drive away but ran over Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Officers fired several rounds at Rutherford's car. He crashed shortly afterwards in the 800 block of Roosevelt where he then tried to flee on foot. Officers caught and arrested Rutherford in a nearby backyard. While placing Rutherford under arrest, officers realized he had been shot. Rutherford was taken to a hospital for treatment but his condition is not known.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice will be investigating this incident since it was an officer-involved shooting.
