Beloit Schools Receive State Honor

BELOIT (WIFR) -- The School District of Beloit has 5 schools honored this year by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Wisconsin School of Recognition program.

The award-winning schools include:

Burdge Elementary School
Converse Elementary School
Gaston Elementary School
Robinson Elementary School
Roy Chapman Andrews Academy

This is the third, consecutive year for Converse Elementary School in earning this award.

The schools, recognized for beating the odds, had to follow criteria based on: high rates of poverty (be within top 25% of the state’s high-poverty schools, based on free/reduced lunch percentages) and have above average student achievement in reading and math than other schools with similar demographics.

Part of the recognition includes receiving $500 for use at the school, and an award plaque to be received at a formal ceremony at the state capitol on October 8, 2013.

The School District of Beloit typically has around 2 schools honored each year for this recognition, and we are excited to learn a greater number of the district schools were selected for the award.

Converse, Gaston and Robinson serve students in grades 4K-3. Burdge serves students in grades 4-5, and RCAA Charter School serves students in grades 6-12.
