BELOIT (WIFR) -- A Beloit man has been arrested in an attempted armed robbery that happened early this morning.
The Beloit Police Department is investigating an Armed Robbery that occurred shortly before 7:30 am on Wednesday, October 2nd. The incident took place at the night deposit box at the First National Bank, 345 E. Grand in Beloit.
Police say a woman had driven to the night deposit box of the First National Bank on E. Grand in Beloit around 7:30 this morning. While she was completing her transaction, she was approached by a man armed with a handgun demanding money from her. After a brief struggle, she began yelling which drew the attention of numerous citizens in the area as well as employees at the bank.
Witnesses report the man then fled on foot north on the footpath along the Rock River. Witnesses chased the suspect north along the foot path and then east crossing Pleasant Ave. until they lost the suspect.
Responding officers from the Beloit Police Department found the man in the 600 block of Church St. where he was taken into custody. The firearm was recovered.
22-year-old Jordan Betker of Beloit was arrested for attempted robbery. The woman was not injured during the incident and there was no property loss.
