Beef, Pork Prices Soar Due To Low Supply

MGN Online

ROCKFORD (WIFR ) -- A nationwide drought is sending meat prices sky high and don't expect to see any relief by the end of this summer's grilling season.

Beef and veal costs are up more than 10 percent compared to this time last year, according to the latest consumer price index. Pork prices are up 12 percent. The lack of rain fall has thinned out cattle and a deadly virus is hitting pigs hard. Farmers say although pork may rebound soon. The beef supply could be a problem for several years.
