UPDATE: Harlem Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse

UPDATE: A Harlem Middle School teacher will spend only four days in jail for sexually abusing a 17-year-old basketball player she coached back in 2008 at Belvidere High School.

Baney was 23 years old at the time of the incident. She has been sentenced to two and a half years probation for indecent solicitation of a child. If she violates that probation, she will serve an additional nearly six months in jail.

As a condition of her probation, Baney cannot have contact with minors under the age of 18. Baney was a science teacher for Harlem Middle School, but coached at Belvidere during her first year of teaching.

UPDATE: A Harlem Middle School science teacher has pled not guilty to sexually abusing a 17-year-old player on the Belvidere High School basketball team during the 2008-2009 season.

Darcee Baney was arraigned today on seven counts of sexual abuse. She was a science teacher at Harlem Middle and coached basketball at Belvidere during her first year of teaching. Her accuser was 17 at the time and Baney was 23.

Multiple players on the team say they don't buy the allegations.


STATELINE (WIFR) -- Darcee Baney, the middle school teacher accused of sexually abusing a student, made her first court appearance this afternoon.

Baney is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17 year old when she was 23. The victim was on the Belvidere girls basketball team and just came forward last month. Baney was assigned to Judge Truitt. She'll be back in court on Halloween.
