ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It's been just over a year since the Rockford Public School District kicked off a more than $300 million construction plan to improve all schools and there are a bunch of projects in the works.
A lot has been done since last May including school additions at six elementary schools and field houses at Guilford and Auburn high schools are well underway.
Also at Auburn High School, window replacement is underway. Today crews were tearing out the old and putting in the new windows. With the exception of a few windows, most of the front of the building is done. The glass on the doors will also be replaced. Today workers were installing windows on the inside court area.
The windows are supposed to be more energy efficient, keeping the warm air in when it's cold and keeping classrooms cooler when it's hot.
We'll also see new windows at Flinn, Kennedy, Lincoln and West middle schools, to name a few. Currently in the works, parking re-construction and lighting improvements at Eisenhower Middle School, which should be done in August.
Every school will see some kind of improvement under this ten-year facilities plan. To see schools under construction and pictures of the upgrades click the attached link.
