Auburn H.S. Students Make Wood Pens for Troops Overseas

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It's quite a process making a pen from scratch, but dozens of students from Auburn High School learned the technique and they did it all for our troops fighting overseas.

Auburn students were put to the test today as their goal was to handcraft 200 pens for our military the school brought in expert woodmakers who carefully and delicately helped students hand craft pens from blocks of wood. It took the students about five hours to make all the pens but they say it's all worth it for those brave men and woman.

"It's going to brighten someone's day I mean you know you're putting a smile on someone's face whose protecting your country," Auburn High School Sophomore Rebecca McLain, said.

Pens for soldiers has been going on for about ten years now and more than 160,000 pens have been shipped overseas.
