ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford neighborhood has lost more than a dozen trees to a bug that's invading the Stateline.
Crews started cutting down about 20 ash trees this morning in the Highland Park neighborhood, located just off of Rural Street. The Emerald Ash Borer eats away at the tree's bark, ultimately causing the tree to starve. Workers will also spray chemicals in the same area to stop the infestation.
The city plans to replace the trees that will be cut down.
