Artists Use Chalk to Brighten Up Miracle Mile

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- There are all kinds of colors filling the Miracle Mile on East State Street.

On Saturday, artists rolled up their sleeves for the first ever "Chalk the Mile."

They went to work on their masterpieces using sidewalk chalk in the parking lot of Rock River Ford.

Anyone was welcome to draw pictures from young artists to older ones.

Three teams from Artplace competed to see who could come up with the best creation.

"They're so enthusiastic," said executive director Jennifer Hall. "They're working in teams and watching the teamwork they all came up with their drawings ahead of time and submitted them and watching them work as teams and get things done they're making beautiful, beautiful art behind us."

This was hosted by the Miracle Mile group, which is a group of businesses along East State Street.

The hope Saturday was for shoppers to get to know business owners outside of their shops.
