ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Three people and a Rockford business were robbed in less than 24 hours which is keeping local detectives busy with several ongoing investigations.
Robbery victim Ashley Avery said," It's one of those things where you're like ‘no, this isn't happening to me.’”
Avery lives next door to "Just For Us Plus," a clothing shop that got robbed at knife point just before we talked to her. While she never saw the suspect, Avery says the crime scene is all too familiar.
She said, "It sticks with you."
Avery was robbed at gun-point on Halloween while working a Road Ranger Gas Station on Harrison Avenue. She says she'll never forget the moment she felt her life was in danger.
Three Rockford residents likely experienced that same feeling over night after a string of armed robberies
Lt. Marc Welsh from the Rockford Police Dept. said, "The robberies have been to people who have been out and about in the street doing their business.”
The Rockford Police Department is investigating more robberies to citizens right now. in the last 24 hours.
Two men robbed another man at gunpoint outside of an Auburn Street ATM.
A similar thing happened to two people parked in their car at the intersection of Rockton Avenue and Whitman Street.
As the manager of an east side Burger King was trying to go home for the night, police say she was forced back inside to open the register.
The PD says they are taking every case seriously and say it's best to use the buddy system
Welsh said, "Chances are it will drop dramatically that you'll be a victim of a robbery if you have one or two people with you."
While you can't completely avoid the risk, residents like Avery say her experience has made her more aware of her surroundings.
