ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The City of Rockford Human Services Department will be taking applications for the summer energy assistance program at local community sites in Boone and Winnebago Counties from July 15th through July 26th.
Applications will be taken by appointment only. The State of Illinois, Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Office of Energy Assistance has released $167,400 in cooling assistance funds which will provide 1,116 applicants with a $150 benefit on their Commonwealth Edison utility bill.
In order to apply, residents must call on July 12th between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. All appointments will be scheduled by phone only. Walk-in appointments will not be accepted. Residents should call the site(s) that serve their qualifying condition. Due to the anticipated number of people seeking this assistance and the limited number of appointments, not everyone seeking to apply will obtain an appointment.
