Annual Young at Heart Festival Kicks Off Tonight

LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- Memorial Day weekend means more than just cook-outs and swimming in the Stateline, it's the 43rd annual Young at Heart Festival.

Gates open at 6 p.m. tonight and once families are inside there's all the highlights of a festival, carnival rides, food and music.

The bands Trio and Mr. Big Stuff' take to the stage tonight starting with Trio at 7 p.m. and Mr. Big Stuff at 9 p.m. And if you're a country music fan Phil Vassar is headlining this year's event. He takes to the stage tomorrow night at 10 p.m., following fireworks. That big name is expected to draw in bigger crowds this year.

"Our past turnout has always been about 20-25,000 people and we're hoping this year it might even be more. Button sales have been very brisk already for advanced buttons so we're hoping for a really good turnout this year and with the way the weather is going, it looks like it's going to be," said Diana Johnson, the chairman of the Young at Heart Festival.

Tickets are $9 at the gate, kids under six years-old are free.

The Young at Heart parade will also be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. starting at Woodward and heading north on North Second St.

The festival opens back up at noon, Saturday-Monday. For a complete list of events and time, click the attached link.
