BOONE COUNTY (WIFR) – The Boone County Board decides to green-light planning a project to build a new animal shelter to replace one that is in desperate need of repair. We stopped by the facility today. The floor is cracked, infested with mice, and dogs are only separated by a chain link fence. Tonight, board members will debate whether to fix the existing building or start from scratch. A new building would cost the county around $600,000 but employees say it’s worth the investment.
"These are residents' dogs, taxpayers dogs that we have here at our facility that have the potential to go home with a sickness that would then be the county's responsibility,” said Program Coordinator, Jacqui Mitzelfelt.
