Alzheimer's Association Duck Race Winners Announced

DIXON (WIFR) -- The first and second place winners of the Fifth Annual Alzheimer’s Association Duck Race generously donated their winnings back to the Association and to another charity following the August 10th event in Dixon.

A total of 1,292 ducks was launched from the Galena Street Bridge on the Rock River to help raise awareness and funding for the Alzheimer’s Association – Central IL Chapter – Rock River Branch. An event of Reagan Trail Days, 235 individuals and local businesses purchased tickets from the Rock River Branch. Blue, pink and yellow numbered toy ducks raced to the Peoria Street Bridge where the Dixon City and Rural Fire Departments were on hand to capture and declare the winners. A total of $1,400 in prize money was awarded to first, second and third place winners. The laziest duck (last one to arrive at the Peoria Street Bridge) was also awarded a $50 cash prize.

1st Place – KSB Hospital $1000.00
2nd Place- Valerie Ford $250.00
3rd Place- Boss Roofing-Siding Experts Inc. $100.00
Laziest Duck- Tom Kitson $50.00

KSB Hospital was very generous with their winnings, donating $500 back to the Alzheimer’s Association and $500 to the KSB Caring Friends Fund, an employee-to-employee interim support fund.
Second Place Winner Valerie Ford was also generous in donating her winnings back to the Association.

Ticket holders were primarily from Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside counties, but the event drew interest from Carroll County and as far away as Minnesota.

Local Alzheimer’s Association employees, Nancy Sweitzer (Program Director) and Tina Barnhart (Chapter Assistant) stated, “we are very pleased with this year’s turnout; the office sold more tickets this year than last and we had more people on the river front watching the event. We are grateful to the Main Street Association for including us in Reagan Trail Days, the local Fire Departments for their assistance and to everyone who purchased tickets/ducks in support of our cause.”
