LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Allegiant Air is reporting no cancellations and three delays among its 187 flights Thursday while it inspects emergency exit slides on its fleet of MD-80 aircraft.

Company spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler says just one flight -- between Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona and Bismarck Airport in North Dakota -- was delayed more than a couple of hours.

Wheeler says at least 37 of Allegiant's fleet of 52 MD-80s are back in service.

About 10 percent of Allegiant passengers endured cancellations last weekend, after the airline grounded MD-80s until each exit chute was overhauled to meet manufacturer's recommendations.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Travel Co. began the effort after a smoke alarm aboard an aircraft led to the emergency evacuation of an Allegiant flight in Las Vegas on Sept. 16. No one was hurt.

LAS VEGAS/ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- On September 20th, Allegiant announced that it has discovered a compliance issue which will require immediate inspection and overhaul of many emergency exit slides in its MD80 fleet. The Company has already begun the inspections and expects to complete the process by the end of September. MD80 aircraft will be placed back in service as soon as possible.

At this time, 12 flights have been canceled while the company continues to overhaul emergency slides on its MD-80 aircraft fleet.

Although Rockford flights have not been affected, a list of the affected flights for Monday can be found at http://www2.allegiantair.com/travel-advisory. Monday's cancellations are on six routes, including four into and out of McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas and one each involving flights in and out of Phoenix and Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla.

Allegiant has activated additional call center staff, and Allegiant will be contacting affected travelers directly. Customers can also sign up for flight alerts for individual flights at https://www2.allegiantair.com/flight-status or call 702-505-8888.
