ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Airfest attendance is estimated to be around 135,000 people. Two years ago there were about 100,000 people at the air show. We wont know how much money the event bought in for a couple weeks.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It was a big weekend for Rockford as near-record crowds packed into the airport and kept their eyes to the skies for the return of AirFest and it was all capped off Sunday with a final high-flying performance by the US Air Force Thunderbirds.
It wasn't just the Thunderbirds showing off flips and barrel rolls in the sky. There were performances all weekend by pilots from all over the country.
Organizers estimate about 120,000 people packed into RFD this weekend. That's not quite a record, but close which organizers say gives them the fuel to make next year's event even bigger and better.
"It was an amazing show, everyone we talked to really enjoyed themselves. We'll be wrapping this one up and we'll be looking to the future and you never know what will show up for next year," RFD Deputy Director Amy Ott, said.
Ott says she thinks last year's break due to sequestration actually may have helped attendance this year. She says it just shows how excited people were that AirFest was back.
