Accused Woman in Frying Pan Death May Get Mental Health Evaluation

ELGIN, Ill. (AP) -- Defense attorneys are seeking a mental health evaluation for an Illinois woman facing charges after her boyfriend fell and died when she hit him on the head with a frying pan.

The Daily Herald reports ( that attorneys for 35-year-old Nora Leach-Peterson of Elgin want her evaluated and could be contemplating an insanity defense.

Leach-Peterson faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 55-year-old Michael N. Mielczarek. Paramedics found him unresponsive and bleeding from the head in August 2012 following a domestic dispute.

She is being held on $750,000 bail. Her next court date is Aug. 23.
