WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- A motorcyclist was killed after rear-ending an SUV in Winnebago County.
The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the intersection of Meridian Road and Trask Bridge Road. The Illinois State Police say 39-year-old Rockford man, Jeremie Kobler, was riding his motorcycle south bound on Trask Bridge and ran into a Kia Rio stopped at the stop sign at the intersection. Police say Kobler was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. Kobler worked as a corrections sergeant for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years. The driver of the other SUV 48-year-old Douglas Schroder, also of Rockford, suffered minor injures. The crash is still under investigation but police don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
This is the second fatal crash on Trask Bridge Road this week. Gerald Gipe, 57, crashed his Jeep late Monday night on Trask Bridge Road west of Burritt Town Hall. Gipe was pronounced dead at the scene. Autopsy results indicate he was killed by the trauma of the crash and he did have alcohol in his system. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the crash.
