Accident Reconstruction Brings Homicide Charge

PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) -- A negligent homicide charge has been filed in Columbia County after reconstruction experts say they determined the driver involved in a fatal crash was speeding.

Seventeen-year-old Kyle Caraher of Northbrook, Ill., was killed in July 2012 in a collision at an intersection near Prairie du Sac. A criminal complaint says the Wisconsin State Patrol determined Brian Moore was driving 24 mph over the speed limit when his vehicle struck Caraher's car.

The complaint says if Moore has been traveling at the speed limit of 45 mph, Caraher's car would have been through the intersection by the time Moore's vehicle entered it.

The 28-year-old Windsor man is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. The Portage Daily Register says Moore is due in court June 19.
