Academy Expo at Jefferson High School

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Another new initiative in District 205 is high school career academies. Today students got a taste of some local careers. Kids at Jefferson High school got to check out the academy expo with more than 60 local businesses and agencies. Students got to speak with manufacturing companies, Police, even EMT’s, about their line of work. The idea is to give students a direction when they pick one of four academies next school year.

"A lot of people say we're dropping out of school and stuff so I think this helps the whole high school community and everyone around here realize what they want to do with their lives and it helps them realize what they want to go to college for,” said Corterryis Ford, a junior at Jefferson High.

Academies are piloting with freshmen at Jefferson High School this year. Next year, all students at Jefferson will be in academies. That's also when freshmen at the other high schools will pick academies.
