Hunters Warned About Dangers of West Nile

Health officials warn that hunters should take precautions against West Nile virus since they are coming into contact with the two predominant carriers: mosquitoes and birds.

Officials say there are no known cases of anyone getting sick from handling or eating a bird that's been exposed to the virus, but hunters should take some precautions, including wearing gloves while handling or cleaning game birds and cooking them well.

Hunters could also be exposed to the virus through contact with mosquitoes that inhabit the fields and woods they hunt.
