Authorities say the boy started stealing cars when he was only nine years old. In July, he led police on a chase that ended with him crashing a stolen car and injuring two people.
Officials say the child has been arrested more than 10 times overall, and his mother has said she has trouble controlling him.
Cook County Judge Rodney Brooks yesterday ordered the boy into the custody of Illinois child welfare officials, but he's being allowed to stay at home until a residential facility if found.
