State Senate Adding Cameras So Internet Surfers Can Watch

The Senate is adding a $220,000 video system this fall so the public can watch on the Illinois legislative website.

This comes four years after the Illinois House began televising its sessions. A spokeswoman for Senate President Emil Jones says the public reacted strongly to webcasts of audio, so officials decided to add pictures.

Springfield Sen. Larry Bomke says he has some qualms about spending so much money on the video system while the state is cutting jobs because of budget problems.

The video system should be ready in time for the Legislature's fall session in November.
