Harlem Bargaining Unit Reaches Tentative Agreement

The 350+ workers approved the pact Friday. The School Board is meeting late this afternoon to vote on its approval of the deal. The agreement came after a short bargaining session at midday Friday.

The teachers in the system still do not have a contract. At this time, the next negotiating session is slated for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The 700 teachers are seeking additional pay increases than the administration is offering for the second and third years of a contract. Both sides have agreed to the first year having no salary hike.

Harlem Schools have not opened yet. They were scheduled to open last Monday, however, the walkout by teachers and staff prevented this from happening.

Harlem has about 8,000 students.
