CLINTON, Iowa (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is calling for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. combat brigades from Iraq.
He says the pullout should be completed by the end of next year.
Obama is scheduled to lay out his plan at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa today.
He says the best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq's leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin removing combat troops.
The Illinois senator opposition to the war has been a central theme of his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
And he's used it to distinguish himself from leading rival Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. She voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq.
