State Trooper Awarded

Every so often you meet someone who changes your life forever.

Trooper Bill Kearney has embedded a lasting impact on so many lives, on the lives of his fellow state police officers, and on the life of a Pennsylvania man seriously injured on August 7.

Trooper Kearney was on a routine traffic stop on U.S. 20 when he witnessed a motorcycle crash. He immediately called for backup, rushed to the scene and began administering first aid to the injured motorcycle driver.

The lifeline flight unit who arrived on the scene presented Trooper Kearney with an award. They say 50-year-old Richard Gossar wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for the brave efforts displayed by the trooper.

Trooper Kearney doesn't call himself a hero, he says it's just a part of his job, but in the eyes of those around him he is a man of true valor.

For 14-and-a-half years, Trooper Kearney has worked to protect our community as an Illinois state police officer and now he can add "lifesaver" to his list of accomplishments, a sterling sign of courage and bravery that those around him will always remember.
