ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- State and federal officials say residents living in two northern Illinois counties affected by last month's flooding can apply for aid over the phone.
Last week President Bush declared Stephenson and Winnebago counties as major disaster areas because of heavy rain and flooding in early August. The heavy rains caused dozens to evacuate and knocked out power to thousands.
The declaration made grants available for temporary housing, home repairs and low-cost loans for replacing things not covered by insurance.
Residents who call in have to register by providing a current telephone number, address and Social Security number.
