Irish Officials: Prescription Drug Import Plan "Unusual"

The groups tell the Chicago Tribune that it's illegal to mail-order prescription drugs in Ireland, and an Irish Medicines Board spokeswoman says the government has never had any formal contact with anyone from the governor's office.

Blagojevich aides say they're aware of the Irish law. They say the state would work around it by buying drugs from wholesalers instead of pharmacies and funneling the drugs through the United Kingdom.

Blagojevich announced Tuesday that the state will set up an Internet network within the next month to help Illinoisans buy prescription drugs from Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
