That's because this neighbor, 42-year-old Leroy Quillman, is a convicted sex offender. Tomorrow he moves into the 400 block of Cherry Street. And Janesville Police spent the last few days warning neighbors about his arrival. Quillman was convicted of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old female acquaintance in 1992. And many families are uneasy about his arrival.
"I'm sure people with young kids are going to be nervous with them walking, so I'm sure it's going to feel less safe than if you didn't know about it," says Grace Pickering.
"I guess he's got the right to live where he wants as long as we know about it," says Robert Nowatzski.
Quillman served 18 years at Rock County Community Corrections. In addition to registering as a sex offender for the rest of his life, he's not allowed to be around minors by himself or go to any bars or liquor stores.
