Attracting Young Professionals To Rockford
How can the city of Rockford get young professionals to live and work in the area? That's what a volunteer group's trying to figure out right now. Posted: 6:13 PM Aug 21, 2007 |

Rockford is not going anywhere because our uptight "leaders" don't want to bring money here. Rockford is a garbage dump. It all starts with our mayor. Whom, by the way, swings for the other team.

In 1993, after earning a BA in Journalism and American History (with high honors) I returned to my hometown of Rockford to use my newly minted degree. After nine months of searching for suitable employment I finally gave up. The only offers I received were for low level factory work or data entry. Rockford is a nothing. The industrial base is gone and the streets are filled with criminal types. You wonder why all the young people are leaving? No jobs, no restaurants of any worth, crime, drugs, no cultural activities...I could go on but why bother? I really can't say enough bad things about Rockford. I felt betrayed by the very town where I was born and raised. Employers dismissed my degree and experience and gave me silly unwanted advice. "You should find a job in a factory," one suggested. Yeah, right. I worked in the factories (Rockford Products) for three years to earn enough money to attend college. While in college I worked part-time as a teacher. Rockford SUCKS!!!
