Rockford library is calling it Max, short for maximum access.
It's an innovative, multi-dimensional system able to track thousands of books and assist thousands of eager readers.
Library staff spent six months designing the catalog, which will launch in its entirety next week. The catalog includes easier searches, picture guides to help kids find their favorite books and book and video holds for all six branches you can click on right from your home.
Library leaders say the catalog gives users a big technological boost.
"Well, the Internet makes accessing the library so much easier and it just makes it so much more exciting to be able to see everything online before you come in and want you to feel like you are in the 21st century when you come to the library and this helps makes that happen," Rockford Public Library Executive Director Karen Van Drie said.
